De grootste kopermijn van Peru: de koper-zinkmijn van Antamina schort haar activiteiten op

Peru’s largest copper mine, the Antamina copper-Zn mine, suspended operations on Sunday because locals continued to set up roadblocks. They believed that the mine did not fulfill its promise to support the local community. The protesters demanded that Antamina pay compensation for the use of their land to transport ore. At present, the Antamina copper mine is jointly owned by BHP Billiton (33.75%), Glencore (33.75%), Teck Resources (22.75%) and Mitsubishi (10%). This mine is expected to be built into the world's fourth largest copper mine this year. The Antamina Copper Mine said in a statement that it does not want to see any physical conflicts and believes that the government and its authorities need to take action to restore order. This is the latest in a series of protests against mining companies since Peru’s President Pedro Castillo took office in July.
